Unofficial but it is what someone caught with their camera phone. Ford ups the power with 'open valve technology.' Not bad power.

F-150 power

Yup. Although I wonder if they will matter now that gas is about to be over 4 dollars.

390 TQ should be plenty with the 6-sp auto.

Ya.. the F150 doesn't need any more torque than 400.

I think Ford should have a DI option for the 5.4L, though. It would boost power for those who want it. Like the CTS, for example.. it has a DI option for those who want 300 hp.

If Ford would just give that engine DI, it would be awesome. It's already one of the most reliable engines on the market, DI would perfect it, IMO.

They have no reason to give it direct injection when its going to be replaced soon with a Boss engine.

The 5.4L won't be replaced.. that is merely speculation..that is a rumor.. Ford has confirmed there will be 5 engine choices for 2010. We know of a V6, TT V6, Straight 6 Turbo Diesel, BOSS, and one hasn't been "confirmed". My guess it the 5.4L. I don't think Ford would dare axe the engine that has pulled its weight for so long.. it would just be plain dumb. Ford's Triton V8 & V10 are awesome motors.. dropping the Triton wouldn't be good marketing, IMO. A lot of effy fans drive this truck because of the Triton V8 because the know it's reliable, and always has been.

yeah, the way i've understood it is that the BOSS will be a "step up" from the 5.4L... not a replacement.

Um, there are rumored to be replacements for the Mod engines. I have read from sources about a 5.0L and a 6.2L. I have heard from other people though about a 5.8L. I'm sure the 5.0L will replace the 4.6L but I don't know how legit the 5.8L is.

From Sean:

The tritons are rubbish. They're undersquare, the stroke is too long the bore too small. They suck. They have an OHC design and yet they don't rev to use the OHC. They would be better off pushrods...

Sean said that... wow..

They're not rubbish at all. They are proven to be among the most dependable and toughest engines out there.

As have the 302 and 351, two damn fine engines that could have easily made more power had Ford spent money developing them instead. The modulars were designed for use in FWD cars, that's why they have such a small bore. As car engines, they're great, but I don't like 'em as truck engines.

Oh, and I finally listened to Sig an joined, but I'll stay quiet.... ::O^)::
