Gimme the 6.2 litre V8, a 6 speed auto with full manual override OR a 6 speed manual, a T-case with a VERY LOW low range, maybe about 4:1, SELECTABLE locking differentials, front AND rear, and wrap it all in regular cab with 6.5 foot styleside bed with chrome rather than the ugly gray crap covering the Fx4, accessible towing points, front and rear, stiffened bumpers that can take small hits with brush etc., an all vinyl interior with hose down ability, and wrap big tires around 17 inch wheels. If they can give me that, they make the greatest truck EVER.
The truck is awesome, and i would love to see and have one, however the market is completly wrong for this truck. If this had came out in '04 the timing would have been great.
Some people will forget the high gas and buy a new truck, but the numbers will be way down, and i dont foresee alot of people racing out to buy a desert runner truck.
i think it will be really cool, but i can't help thinking what if SVT had used all of the R&D on this to make a performance Fusion or Focus that was still able to retain decent mileage numbers.
The Raptor looks pretty cool, but I can't help but think that not too much R&D went into it. And I do hope they are achieving a good R&D to profit margin when they sell the truck. Because it it pays off as good PR and makes a few bucks in the process it'll keep interesting vehicles coming out.
SVT, they just used Fox Racing shocks with a LONG travel suspension. Oh, and lots of sidewall on the tires.
That's not considered long travel, long travel is 13-14+inches of useable travel on the front end, what the raptor has is considered mid travel, it's like putting new upper control arms that correct front end suspension geometry when applying a coilover/coilspacer lift to the front end of a truck now. Its better then most trucks travel but it's still not considered long travel. O and those extra couple inches of travel make a huge difference in offroading......we are pulling 21"inches of travel on our front end, but we keep it strapped at 18.5" to keep our scrubb radius from going into negative angles.
