Apparently its based on the 4.6L V8 in the Lexus GS and LS. It has the same dual VVT-i as the 5.7L engine but they both have different transmissions. 310 HP/327 TQ is slightly more in HP and slightly less in TQ than my dad's Tundra is now with mods, which is pretty good. They had a comparison chart on another website comparing all the mid-level engines of full-size trucks, and I must say, you can't really go wrong with any of them.
yeah well i dont think the GM 5.3 should be up there thou... i mean come on it takes 5.3L to put out the almost the same HP and TQ as a ford and toyota 4.6 liter....
yeah, but they sell it for the same price and the physical size of the engine is the same as the Toyota and Ford's, if not a little bit smaller.
I don't understand why the Ford 3V only puts out 292/320... it's essentially the same engine in my car that has 300/320 and the 2010 Stang that has 315/325. The one in the '10 Stang just has a different intake and tune, so don't see why Ford couldn't just use the better flowing intake on the truck and achieve 300/320. breaking that 300hp barrier looks 10x better on the spec sheet than something in the 290's.
Well to be fair about the 5.3L it is smaller than most of the engines on there, especially the ones with OHCs, just like tex said. And I know that the 5.3L isn't big for more TQ it's big for low end TQ, it makes 300TQ at roughly 2100rpms.
