Cat diesel will be officially leaving the commericial truck market in 2010, they are tired of fighting to meet emmisions. http://www.cat.com/cda/components/fullArticle?m=37523&x=7&id=895047
While it says that there will be a cat diesel in the new cat truck, it is only a international truck with cat badges and a navistar diesel engine.
All that will be left for engine choices will be paccar, cummins, detroit, volvo, MB, isuzu, and navistar.
Mercedes has been getting into the diesel commercial engine seen lately with good results from what I've heard, it will be interesting to see if they become bigger in the commercial truck business.
Yeah, they are still in it, but the big diesels are sold under the detroit name now. The problem with anything other then cat, cummins and detroit is all the others lack a extensive service area. Parts and knowledgeable mechanics for those three are all around, not so with all the others.
I don't like the Paccar diesels that much. Guess I am more tradition guy with the Cummins and CAT power.
I've heard from some mechanics that they don't like the Mercedes diesels much because everything is metric. The engines are solid though. Too bad they are in Freightshakers.
I am a cat man through and through, but i think that i am going to become a cummins and a detroit diesel fan, they say that the new DD15 detroit is a runner.
My dad has a 550HP C15 ACERT cat with a 18 speed eaton fuller, and sadly it isnt a great engine, it is a lemon, and it doesnt run well, he gets passed by same HP and 500HP cummins when the other truck is loaded heavier, it is sad.
