Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota makes a pitch to Ford's CEO to keep the St.Paul plant, which produces the Ranger, up and running. Right now, the Ranger makes a lot of sense as its the most fuel efficient truck currently available and its increase in sales show it. The market has shifted and don't think Ford would want to get away from it so soon. But then again, Ford would have to pour money into its ancient platform to meet current regulations....
I gotta be honest.. I love my dad's company Ranger. It does good off-road, fairly smooth and quiet for a $20K, and it's maintenance free. (excluding standard oil changes and what not).
The Ranger is great, but I think this new F-series that is in the rumor mill could be good. But if they can't build it and get 25 mpg, there is no point. The Ranger has to be replaced with something just as efficient.
Lets just hope Ford is serious about the Hydraulic Hybrid for their trucks.. that would truly change everything for the truck segment. Imagine.. at least 30 mpg in a full-size truck. That would outsell everything.. no matter what truck it was.
