I just got my MT today, and I noticed a piece on the diesel Outback that Subaru is going to be selling here in the next year or two. Color me impressed! You've got an AWD utility vehicle that seats five and carries all of their cargo that gets 50 MPG? And it has very low emissions as well.
Motor Trend said that you can't even tell it's a diesel without looking at the badge. Plus, they think the diesel option will only add a couple grand to the bottom line. Sounds like a winner to me.
umm subraru... please make a Legacy diesel. If they had one in 07 I would have bought one straight up no questioned asked, went straight for it, not even thinking of any other brands. That would be an awesome practical car with some styling.
This almost seems like a no-brainer......and you can imagine how many SUV buyers might gravitate towards this instead. Fuel-efficient, very sturdy and capable, and extremely reliable. Subaru FTW!! Now if only they could get rid of the ugly stepchildren that are the Impreza and Forester........
The Impreza needs a make over again! lol, just need to redo the styling =/ I say let the forester go, lol, but you can't get rid of the Impreza that's their Rally car, they need it for homologation.
Having been on test drives of the last-gen Forester and Outback, I can tell you I much preferred the Outback. Quieter, a much better ride, just more refined overall.
I wonder what a boxer diesel would sound like. Probably not as good as a Cummins 5.9 but then again its not the stump pulling beast that the Cummins is.
Anyway! I think that this could really be something and be a game changer. People could see that diesel today isn't the same as grandpa's '81 Oldsmobile diesel.
It'd be a great DD for me. Enough cargo space to haul all my gear and 50 MPG.
Ask yourself this question; if an AWD wagon/SUV with a diesel can get 50 MPG, what would say, a Focus or Civic sized car get? This is the answer to the CAFE regs.

Well, yeah.....okay, so the 5-door doesn't look that bad(it actually looks pretty decent when you equip the sport grille-it's body color), but the 4-door is HORRIBLE
And to be honest, the LAST-gen Forester was the better-looking one...
I love the current gen Forester, pre and aft facelift. And oh my the new Impreza is atrocious beyond belief. Gotta love diesels anyway...I hope it cleans the diesel name in the US and so people do not directly relate them to black smoke-belching beasts anymore or the 80s GM diesels.
yea, like my previous post, if they had a 50mpg legacy diesel I would be driving that right now instead of the accord. I just can't stand the curves on the Imprezza, it'll take a while to grow on me and by that time they'll have a new one, lol.
lol, I think that's taking it far, well except I do think it's uglier than a Sebring, but you're right it may never grow on me, I'm just assuming. I want to blame toyota since GM sold their % to them =P
