I dissagree here .. Ford has not once said anything about the 6.2L "Boss" going into any other F150 models. At the Chicago Auto Show, the new Harley was sporting it, however Ford was quoted in saying the Harley will be equipped with a 5.4L, and nothing else.

Leftlane speculates this because of the exhaust pipe. Wow .. that's all they have. In that case, it's more likely it's the new 4.4L diesel, especially with those mirrors. The SD has big dual exhaust tips like that, so it's safe to assume the F150 will have a similar set up. In fact, there were spy shots months ago of an F150 with a similar exhaust setup. Those mirrors are an option on the F150 as it is, however, they will most likely be stock with the diesel varient.

Ford has confirmed the 4.4L diesel for 2010, so I believe that's what this is. There is much, much, much more evidence, and word from Ford, to support that claim. On the contrary, there is no evidence to speak of that the 6.2L Boss will be going in to anythign other than the Raptor, and maybe the Harley.

If they DON'T make the 6.2L an option across the range, they're idiots.

I agree, but they have not said anything about it.

They're trying to sell trucks right now. If they announce that they are offering the 6.2L across the range next year, who is going to want to buy one right now?

Good point, didn't think about that.

I'm not saying that the F150 won't have the 6.2L available on all models, well most models. But I don't think by these pictures alone that one can conclude with absolute assurance that these pictures are of an F150 with the Boss motor.

Like I said before, chances are actually far greater that featured truck in LeftLane's article has the 4.4L diesel, which is due this fall. But I would expect the Platinum, King Ranch, Harley, FX4, and Lariat to have the 6.2L as an option. I doubt that it will be available across the board. It wouldn't surprise me if they only offered it in the more exclusive models, like the Platinum, Harley, & FX4. The Lariat is already their biggest volume seller, so they need incentive in the other models to draw in more sales, thus make more money.

I have no idea what that mule is. Could be either one. I wish they would have said whether the photographer was able to get close enough to tell if it was a diesel by the sound.

You would think that would have been a priority, but some people don't think like that.

Every other mule with the dual tip has been the diesel, so it makes perfect sense.

It does, but like you said, we can't be sure. It's pretty easy for me to see the 6.2 having a dual tip like that as well, since it's a premium engine. Also, it looks like a different design of dual tip than the diesels have had up to this point. I guess I just feel like it's the 6.2L because it's in a Platinum edition. I know it doesn't make complete sense, but I feel like if it is the 4.4L, that the mule would be an XL, STX, or XLT. I don't know why they would be using a Platinum as a test mule unless it was going to be specific to that model. Now that I've thought about it, it makes me feel like it IS the 6.2L and that they are only going to offer it in the upper trims like you said and that's why they have this mule. Who knows...

The motor is already complete, and they're being built .. specs have been out for a few months now. So it would be a preproduction model, not a mule, at this point.

Good point about the exhaust tip; however, in the early muels, those tips were actually taken directly from the SD. So it is possible that this is a preproduction 4.4L diesel. But then again, it's just as likely that it's a Boss as well in a preproduction version.

I didn't realize they were already being built... guess I'm a bit behind.

I didn't either until a few days ago when I did a google search. The specs are out and everything, but they aren't final.
