I was just wondering if any of you guys have noticed the huge I mean huge exhausts one the brand new Chevy 2500/3500HD Silverado's? They're cool, but I thought there were kind of funny looking at first because they just looked out of place for a stock exhaust. Any how, if you happen to drive by a Chevy dealer, be sure to check 'em out, they look like a somebody put a custom pipe on it lol.
Check it out,

They are big and poke more straight out because of the new diesel emission regs. The engines are running hotter so the bigger exhausts are needed to move more air, and the lack of bends doesnt allow the hot gasses build up as much.

Personally i would hate them, i have a white enclosed trailer and that exhaust setup would spew the charcoal right onto my trailer

Thanks for the info that, that makes sense. I knew that had to be a reason they made them so big!

Ford has also had to the samething to their exhaust by adding vents right at the tips to let in cold air. If I could find a picture on the net of an example of the Ford style, I'd post it but I can't find one at the moment. My friend's got a 2007 Ford F-450 King Ranch dualie and got rid of the stock exhaust and added stacks going straight up right through the bed so I wonder how it's going to hold up now that he elminated the stock exhaust with the vents lol.

yea at first i thought someone put it on cuz of the way it's mounted, but yea it's stock.

Pilot are you sure the tip is an emissions thing? Cuz I thought those tips are on gas version too.

I like the exhaust on the Super Duty, it looks cool. The one on that Chevy looks ridiculous, I'd get an aftermarket one ASAP.....

Lol I know, when I told my dad that it was the stock exhaust he didn't believe me at first, lol. But seriously though, check one out at your local Chevy dealer because they look even bigger when you're actually looking at them in person.

I am positive that the exhaust plumbing is due to emission regs for diesel engines, they run way hot. I dont know why the gassers have the same, it may be just so they look alike.

And the tip, i think it is dumb and cheap looking

To me the tip looks like an barrel of a musket. I don't know why Chevy couldn't have been clever like Ford and added dual tips.

Yes, that cannon is for the emissions regs that diesels must adhere to. it is ghastly looking beyond belief but thats how it has to be. If I were to buy one (driven an '07 Sierra 2500HD Duramax 4WD. spectacular drive), I'd hit up Magnaflow the moment I got it home for their exhaust. Looks a lot better not to mention sounds far better.

That is awesome that your friend has stacks on his F-450. Call me a bit redneck but I love dual stacks on a Cummins Ram or a Ford Powerstroke.

Koof you might like this. As you know my dad drives semi trucks for a living. His current truck is a 2005 with the TT C15, i asked him what his exhaust temp readings on the pyrometer are he said 8500F. I then asked him what the 2008's are reading, 13,000F!!!!
