It started back in 02 when I got my hands on a free 84 Celica from my dad's friend, it was his car to play with when he was younger. At first I thought it was kinda ugly, but I was like whatever, it's a free car! lol. On further inspection I saw that the engine was sitting north south and before this all the other celicas i've seen were all FWD. So I was a bit confused, so looked under the car and saw it was RWD. Made me real happy. Long story short I got really into celicas. I sold that 84 off to a friend who needed a car and bought myself a Silver one.

That one came with enkie wheels and an old school momo wheel. Then I found another celica, a black hatch, that had nice suspension parts and had the rear axle i was looking for that had disc brakes and the 7.5" rear end.

So I swap everything over and then sell the black celica off for just about as much as I bought it for. I was pretty happy about that. Then fate would have it... I get rear ended by a F-150. Ruins the Celica, luckly I just had some neck pains the next day, but the car was too damaged.

I end up searching around for a clean donor to make the swap and find a steal, an 85 Red celica coupe for $500, I mean yea it had a blown head gasket, but I don't care I just need it for the body not the engine or tranny. It ran though, funny it only had 3 cyl working but still felt like the normal 100hp car they are, lol. Now I swap over all the stuff from the silver celica and onto my new red one.

I wish I had a pic of it with the nice rims and lowered suspension

I know some images in my gallery aren't working atm, it's a bug we have fixed on the development server and when we push the new updates for the forums those will be fixed too among some other bugs.

Cool to hear the story on your Celicas! Thanks for sharing, it'll be fun to follow the build on your current one. That's a sure shame of what happened to your silver car, sure looked like a nice one from the picture. I bet that was devastating when that happened! Atleaste you got a new one and can swap the parts off the silver one into it. Sounds like it's going to be one cool car when it's done!

When I clicked on the link to see the picture of your silver one, I noticed you had/have it named "silver bullet". When people would ask me if I had a nickname for my Z, I'd always say "silver bullet". Good name for a fast silver sports car.

you know i love those last rwd Celicas too. i had a white '83 GTS notchback coupe and a red '85 GTS Liftback coupe. i'm hoping someday to find a convertible i can afford, so i will have owned one of each bodystyle. i loved the flared fenders, the pump up seats and the super wide tires (for the time).

Yeah, those Celicas are cool. One of my mother's friends' son used to have one that style along time ago and I always used to think it looked pretty cool. Always liked the look of the back of them.

That's coo Art, did you know that the convertible is a US only thing? Makes them very interesting to me, especially since they were all converted in California.

I'm hoping later down the line to get a copy of the racing body kit that the shop developed back when they used to do competitive racing with the Celicas.

i remember sitting in a GTS convertible a year or two after they built the last one in'85. a friend bought it for less than 1/2 the list price back then! it was exactly the same as my '85 Liftback inside except the front seats would only recline a couple of inches, and not all the way down to the back seat like the regular models. the reinforcements they added where the "B" pillar was taken off took up so much room the seats didn't have room to recline. that bothered me as i always drove with the seat pretty reclined and the 3 lumbar bladders pumped up all the way. they were just about the most comfortable OEM seats ever built, imo, just like Recaro's but even more comfortable for some reason. the seats in my infiniti are awesome, with their power recliners and lumbar supports, but the Celica's had adjustable wings too, which could be cranked right into your bodysides to hold you like none other i've ever sat on.

yea, I totally agree. It was a long time since I sat in GTS/Supra seats and a month ago or so I did and it was just such a trip that the seats were extremely comfortable, I was so amazed. I had the same feeling in one of my friend's old stretch MB, the neck rest was so perfect that i nearly fell asleep from how comfortable I was. I don't know what it is about older seats, they just seem to fit me well.

Oh and the same guy with the MB, it's the guy who owns the shop doing the work on my car. He has a celica shipped from japan that was the homologation car for the WRC Group B rally cars. So there were only 200 built. And he had his converted to a vert and said that the chassis was so stiff it didn't need reinforcement like the regular celicas need. It also had the extremely rare 4T-GTE engine in it. I was really surprised to find out what kind of car it really was, lol. He himself is a bit of a celica nut and that's why I decided to have my work done by him.
