Here are the pics of the sucker in there. The cross member finally got worked on this week and was completed a couple days ago. I stopped by yesterday to take pics and Joel and I went over to the metal shop to get some more metal to reinforce some areas since he really doesn't want the drive train to twist around and neither do i of course, haha.
Here are the pics.
as you can see the exhaust fits quite nicely.
Plenty of room in front of the engine and I plan not to run A/C, so I'll put a rad in palace of the A/C
They cut the firewall so that it can fit nicely, plus there are still a lot of stuff that bolts up to the back of the 2GR-FSE.
The engine has about 1/2 in clearance, it's quite tall. Barely fits in this car, lol. Here is the custom cross member made from other celicas including a 1st gen. I may end up raising the suspension, especially for my dad since he's in poor health and I want him to be able to enjoy this car. I really hope that is the oil filter one of the guys said it was the fuel filer but we'll see. I hope it's the oil filter, it would so easy to replace with the clear rout to it from even up top in the engine bay.
Right now it has a really stiff suspension that i will soften up a little and when i get the time i'll be making heim joint stuff for all of my suspension links. Interior wise I'm gunna see how well my friend and i can do stuff with fiber glass. I want to make a new dash. I have a nice CF bucket seat go in, but I don't think my dad would find it very comfortable so i'm going to go look for some old supra seats, they're very comfortable.
Looking good, dude! I'm impressed by the fabrication work involved.
One question. Your steering rack isn't actually going to sit that low is it? ;-P You'd be more worried about your steering rack scraping than your headers...
Also, you said it's the not quite as strong IS250 tranny, but do you plan on beefing that up ever? I know IS aftermarket parts are ridiculously expensive, but cost aside are you planning on building up the tranny and diff so you can put out more power to the wheels via engine mods?
I wanted to get the IS250 6spd manual, but it was just too rare and I didn't know if it would hold up so it has the 6spd auto, which is still a nice auto though so it'll take the hp easy. I hear it's one of the fastest shifting autos, not as fast as a DSG of course, but pretty quick. The rear end I already beefed up by swapping in a 7.5" rear end. This way I also got rid of my rear drums and got rear disc brakes. The only thing I'd do in the near future is replace the rear wheel bearings since I think they're in need of replacement. LSD is in the future, but not anytime soon as I need to save up again.
The steering rack wasn't bolted in at the time i took that pic, lol. So no don't worry it's much higher up than the bottom of the cross member. As far as engine mods go, I don't think I'll be doing anything yet, I really wanted to have this engine be pretty stock since I wanted it to be very reliable, one of the reasons why I wanted to try and get a new engine to be put in. Probably the most will be a cat back system since they have to do new exhaust anyways for the car.
Oh btw, my friend has done another cool thing to his civic, he doesn't have the turbo motor anymore, but a really clean swap that he did. I'll post pictures up later and you can guess what it is. It sould be easy for you, but the others probably will have a little more time with it since it looks super honda factory, uber sleeper car.
