My window wipers arms were pretty dull and had some yellowing on them, so I sanded them with some 800 grit sandpaper to get the yellow off and then painted them back to the aluminum color. All in all they turned out well,

It's always remarkable what a little sanding and paint can do for a part/project.

Hey I took your idea, and did mine as well. :)

They are 11 years old, and didn't look too good.

But I started with a 180 grit and took them down to the metal as best I could. Some spots were hard to sand, but I managed best I could. Then I took a 300 grit and smoothed it down nearly to perfection.

I then applied 2 coats of a high dollar primer, and then painted them black with 3 coats of an enamel spray paint. They look brand new.

But I ran into a slight problem.. apparently, the prime needed more than 30 minutes to dry and settle. The guy at the hardware assured me it would be enough time. Butt as I put them back on my truck, I noticed what appeared to be finger prints. But actually, I had moved or smooshed the primer. So, no I have to re-sand target areas and fix them up.

By the way 76_280.. what type of paint did you use and how long did you let them dry? The dude at the hardware told me 30 minutes for the primer and paint, but I think he was plain wrong.

Thanks,

I used a paint from Duplicolor "Aluminum" and let each coat dry inside my garage (at the time which was around 70 degrees) for about an hour and half between each coat. The paint has to totally dry completely before you apply each coat and it's also better with spray paint to do a multiple of light coats rather than say do two heavy coats and call it good.

See, I thought I would give it an hour to dry, but Sir Paint-a-lot at the hardware said 30 min was plenty.

I think what i'm going to do is let them dry while I'm working tomorrow, which is 4 hours.. just to be safe.
