I can understand the logic in shelving the engine as far as decreased truck sales and higher diesel costs, but what i dont get is if they have spent so many millions in R&D on this engine, and it is so close to production ready why dont they give it a chance and see if it does well at least that way they could recoup some of their costs. They did the samething with the hurricane/boss 6.2L
*EDIT, how do you make hyperlinks? URL doesnt work and neither does just pasting the link
ford has played wait and see for so long it's driving me nuts. i think that ford actually started on this engine before gm did with their new diesel. with the talks of gm putting their new V8 diesel in cars it seems like ford would think about doing the same. i hope that gm and chrysler do well with their diesel half tons and make ford regret their decision.
This will be the biggest mistake Ford has made in recent years. This is a pinnacle time for full size tucks, and if Ford drops their 1/2 ton diesel, say goodbye to the best selling truck 30 years running .. it's that simple.
Today on auto blog they have a really god review of the new F150, and in it they state that 9% of the buyers of the 150 bought 250/350's and realised they they over bought so they were downsizing. Im not sure of the numbers, but i would guess that the powerstroke is the second best selling engine in the 250/350. So wouldnt it make sence that those that realize that they overbought with a diesel 250/350 would still want a capable diesel in their new truck that costs less?
you know i think this engine was going to be in the navigator and expidention first but none of the sites mention it. i wonder if they are still plans to put the engines in those trucks? as far as they've came along with the engine maybe they are just working on how to get better mpg out of the engine, 20 mpg seems kinda low to me.
If you do the math with the numbers ford gave the engine should be good for 20/24 MPG, which is great for a truck that heavy. I know that the original plans were to put it in the large SUV's, i dont know why they have backpeddled from that also.
By: Mustangfan2003 i thing most of the gas motors are fleet sales. it seems like ford will wore more toward the ecoboost motors.
I hope that the ecoboost is all ford says it is cracked up to be, otherwise ford is going to piss off alot of people and screw themselfs in the process
