Wow... this show will fail, and there will not be more than one season.. Gear??? Are you kidding? That's like calling Big Brother, just Brother... nobody has a clue what it is.
I'll watch it, simply because it's a car show, but nobody else will.
"...indications are that the scathing rhetoric that makes the BBC show such a hit will be severely curtailed by NBC, who fear a backlash from sponsors."
Indications are that this show will stink of lameness.
"Hello and welcome. Tonight we will be driving the new Chevrolet Aveo."
"Wow, incredibly spacious with materials that could be on a car costing three times as much. Ergonomics are excellent. Impressive amount of power, great handling, almost Corvette-like. Road noise is near nil. How can they put all these great features on this car? What a spectacular car and it only costs $10,000."
"And now a word from our sponsor, General Motors."
What a lame, stupid show this will be. At least they will not insult the name of Top Gear.
lol. Yea, going to sound like an uber sponsored version of motor week... I'm really hoping it doesn't blow honestly, but they aren't giving us much hope =(
The Camry Hybrid will get it's own vault next to the DB9's in their cool wall :^D
I cannot wait to see Clarkson flaming the American cousin of Top Gear. They might also come up with a "Hoon of the week" where they'll just grab videos of the biggest sponsor they have.
They've said they're going to skirt around the whole issue of pleasing the sponsors by NOT reviewing any cars outright unless they flat-out love the car. In other words going by the "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" rule. Which is kinda what makes Top Gear so funny--they don't hold back.
And why are you picking on the Aveo? Despite a subpar powertrain it's not a bad car for the money. I'd actually have one over my Cav.
I wasn't really picking on it. It was a small car that came to mind right away so I ran with it for an example on how I could see the show going. Its not a bad car at all.
