Anybody really know how to wax and buff a car using an electircal orbital buffer? I mean .. i know you need a foam bonnet (appy), terry bonnet (remove) and a lamb or sheep and goat hair somethin or other bonnet to buff the shine in. At least that's what the Pep Boys told me.

But how is it done? What is the best technique to see the best results? I did my trial run on my dad's company Ranger, which is black, and it looks okay. But i've seen a deeper black shine than that before.

Any experts?

Depends on the quality of the paint and the quality of the waxing product. Some require tons of prep work and can take up an entire day. Personally for things that aren't in competitive shows, I love this formula spray stuff. Just very quick stuff. Spray, allow to sit, then come back and buff it out. Makes it pretty darn smooth.

As for your stuff, you have an applicator pad, and then you have your other pad to buff it. Not sure if there is really more technique to the basic stuff. Just don't buff too much, I've seen sometimes paint coming off on the pads.

Are you doing a single or multi-step wax? Last time I did mine, I used a friend's 3-step: Wax remover, Seal & Glaze, and then Carnauba. If you're using a wax with a large percentage of Carnauba, good luck using a random orbital, you gotta hand-buff that shit. I only use the buffer to do the removal and actual buffing. Use the applicator pad that comes with whatever wax you're using, terry pad to remove, and then whichever buffing pad you get.

So Tex, you're saying wax it by hand using an applicator pad, provided it's Carnauba. Then I could use an electric orbital to remove and buff?

Last summer I did it all by hand, and it's such a pain in the ass because I have tendinitis in my right wrist. So I bought an orbital to alleviate that issue.

If you're using Carnauba, I'm pretty sure you're going to need to do the whole thing by hand, I know I had to. I used the orbital to remove the pre-wax cleaner and sealer, but it just smeared the Carnauba around the car and the only way I could get it to buff to a shine was by hand. Might just be the type of wax I used, but I'd be prepared just in case.

Ever use a clay bar? I was skeptical about it, so I haven't bought one yet.

clay bar is to remove chemicals and debris so that when you do go to wax you get better results.

I used a clay bar on both of my trucks, but not on the Stang. My stripes are vinyl, so a clay bar would be a PITA. It works though. The paint feels like a baby's ass when you're done.

read the directions before using a clay bar. Cuz it's not like using an eraser to get pencil marks off of paper, it's more like using a soft pad. And you have to use a lubricant and no force, if you push hard on it you can cause some scratches.

Yes, follow direction very carefully. There s a spray that you use and do the clay bar on top. You have to force the first few swipes of any given area, but, eventually, it becomes very very smooth.
